I think the smaller companies have to try harder. Adobe has NO support that I've ever known about and I often feel like Adobe doesn't give much of a damn about their customers since they're the 800 lb. There's a lot of info on the internet about using this tool, and, the best thing for me was that C1 has "free" (built into the purchase price) tech support! I've sent them at least a few dumb questions about "how do I do this? I'm used to LR", and they've always been helpful. There is a significant learning curve as with any new tool so don't get discouraged.

My suggestion is to try the 30 day trial version and import your LR catalog into C1 and see how it goes. I much prefer the image colors used by C1, I like that the "auto" adjust tool doesn't overexpose my images, and I prefer the sharpening options in C1. It's "auto" and "full" options will fix just about anything, even things that C1 can't fix. Then I go back to LR and use its Lens Correction options. Sometimes, thought, despite my best efforts in C1 I just can't get my lines parallel due to some sort of complex distortion. If you want to straighten an image (straighten a leaning tall building) or you have horizontal lines that are out of kilter (you shot the image from an angle), there are two different ways to straighten these lines. I'm not sure what their issue is with this (they didn't go into any detail), but image rotation itself works just like LR. One person in this thread commented that they don't like the way C1 does image rotation. There's no conversion or setting for this in C1. if you want a "vivid" equivalent, you have to figure out what to change manually. Phase One (the makers of C1) has their own color profiles they've developed based on their experience/research for each camera model and those are the colors you get. At least for my D7000, this option doesn't exist. for my camera - just like the jpg shooting options in camera. I shoot with a Nikon D7000 and the LR there are color presets for "standard", "landscape".

C1's "auto" adjust does the job right 99% of the time, so I can start with that and make some minor tweaks to make photos look like I want. Unfortunately, LR pretty consistently over exposed my images this way so I either had to adjust them manually to taste from scratch or do the auto adjust then tweak those settings to make my pictures look right.

My LR catalog contains ~20k images and I can search for anything and find it almost instantly. C1 catalogs work a lot like LR catalogs, except that they're ever slow to search. The import and the "aftershocks" was the most painful part of the switchover for me. I also had several crashes while trying to import. The import took several hours and I some of my keywords weren't transferred to C1. I imported my LR catalog into C1 and it worked but I had a fair amount of work to do after the import. It also has sessions, but I haven't used them enough to say much about them.
